Born in 1965, Michael Paul Austern Cohen is from the Monterey Peninsula. He paints in Carmel, California and Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, and writes poetry throughout the world. Michael is an accomplished artist and poet. He paints exclusively in oils on large canvas, composing with primary colors for depth and simple space, exploring cityscapes, natural geometries, and occasional abstract moments. Adjacent to his expression in painting, Michael's poetry portrays frames of mind, emotions and experiences, breathing characteristic color into life's moments, capturing rhythm and moods, and often whispers from his sub conscious.

Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Virginia Tech with concentrated course work in mathematics, art, history, art history and philosophy. Michael completed non-certificate graduate course work at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C., concentrating in drawing and painting. And Michael holds a graduate juris doctorate degree, magna cum laude, from Washington & Lee University. Applying all these disciplines, in addition to his accomplishments in art and poetry, Michael has enjoyed a successful international career advising global businesses on their inter-continental and cross border competition policies, and has served various faculty appointments teaching that subject matter at universities in Asia, Europe and North America.

Michael’s art is available through private sale or auction.
